PTO Meeting Minutes November 3, 2011

6:30 Meeting called to order
Spooky Treats raised $340.00
T-Bird Cards        fundraiser with Athletics $10. Per card good for 1 year. Sharon gets ½ the money to be split equally between PTO and Athletics.
McDonalds Night brought in $290.
Corn Hole tournament brought in $360.
Box Tops brought in $613.90
                Continue to send your box tops into the school!
Scholastic book fair raised $3158 in scholastic dollars to be used to purchase books for the library and classrooms. 103 books were purchased for $2274.20, $100 shipping leaving a total of $1000 left in the scholastic fund.
PTO will have a book fair in the spring from March 27 – April 5
PTO will be having a spring dance on March 23 the theme will be luau!!
Girls on the Run will be holding an assembly at Sharon on December 13th to inform the girls in grades 3 -5 about their program and encourage them to joining our spring program.
Athletics has purchased a tablet for the school.
December 3rd will be our Applebees breakfast with Santa! PTO will be pre selling tickets for $5 to come to Applebees in Statesville for a 3 pancake, 2 sausage links, and a drink breakfast. Santa will be there to talk to your child and have a photo taken with him!
Mr. Hutchens needs coats for the kids! Please send in any out grown gently used coats to the school.
                Other items that can be used are NEW undergarments and socks, clothes, shoes.
November the 19th will be our Fall Festival!!
                Will check with police dept. and fire dept to see if they would like to be involved.
                Looking for face painting volunteers
                Wesley Mem. Church donated pumpkins to be used as decorations and for games!

                Spin the Wheel is $20 to purchase one

                Cake walk, bingo and corn hole are all $1 per ticket

                Tori will donate some cups for chili, Annette will purchase the rest if needed
Voted on PTO purchasing 2 coolers @ $70 each for functions
Mr. Sheets:
                Focus has been on closing reading gaps,
                                TA’s are using Corrective Reading programs with 2nd-5th grade students who are 1-2 years behind in reading.
                                Teachers are focusing on fluency phrases in reading, comp. skills, and vocab. In reading. Math focus is on teaching students why and answer is not just how. Kindergarten has completed the fast track in Letterland with sounds & letter characters and is now working on letter names and Dloch sight words in reading . Math working on 10 – 20 and some addition.
                                7 Habits: working on habit 2 Begin with the End in mind. I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning, and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school’s mission and vision and look for ways to be a good citizen. A bulletin board outside the cafeteria has examples of this taking place and noted. We will start Habit #3 in 2 weeks “Put First Things First” 3 books on the 7 habits, how full is your bucket and have you filled a bucket today are beginning to be read to classes.
                                Purchased: Additional B2 books and workbooks had to be purchased for Corrective Reading. Money for other Corrective Reading materials was reimbursed when the district offered to pay for Corrective Materials!!
